Craft #90-Day 97-Cereal Box Organizers

Between my husband and Carter, we go through a ton of cereal. So needless to say, we had many cereal boxes to choose from!

I cut the box on a diagonal at the top, so it could be used to hold books, folders, etc. Carter used watercolors to paint pretty pictures to use as our decorative paper for our organizer. We set the paintings aside to let dry.

Once dry, Carter helped tape the paper around the box. Definitely a handy desktop organizer!

Craft #89-Day 97-School-Work Scrapbooks

Since Carter isn't in school yet, we made a craft-work scrapbook instead!

We gathered a few of his past paintings and drawings to add to his folder. Carter helped tape a picture of himself to the front of the folder. We repurposed Christmas gift tag stickers as labels for the pictures we added. We also taped the mini scrapbook we made to the last page.

A very easy and cute way to keep his art work organized!

Craft #88-Day 97-Memory Jars

Early morning crafting! We used a pretty vase instead of a jar to capture the memories of our Shore Acres Botanical Gardens Christmas Light trip this year.

Typically, we visit free or very inexpensive events, so we don't usually buy a lot of extra things....I just take a ton of pictures. I know, surprise, surprise....I love taking pics, obviously. So we decided to use items we had at home to recreate the scene. I did have an ornament box from past years of visiting there to use as well.

Carter helped add pretty glass red pebbles, clear glass marbles, sand, pom poms,and shells-which represented all of the pretty decorations and the sandy beach. We added different colored sequins to represent the lights. Carter helped glue sequins onto a small fir tree branch to represent lights on the Christmas tree. A green bell, the top of the ornament box with the Shore Acres logo printed on it and a scarf tied around the top of the vase, finished our memory jar!

Craft #87-Day 95-Treasure Chest

I really enjoy the time I get to write at night. I used to write all of the time when I was a kid and somehow I kind of just stopped for awhile. With the whirlwind of daily events, sometimes it is hard to get time to even settle down and focus my thoughts. However, my mind is always racing, which is probably why I am an insomniac. Which brings me back to why I like just a little time to myself at night to write, reflect and think. Anyhow, onto what our adventure was today!

My Mom had given me a shoebox for a past project, that I never did end up using. However, it worked perfectly for our treasure chest. The first thing we needed to do was to cover up any writing on the box. So we made waves out of blue paper and Carter helped tape it on. We covered some more lettering on the top sides of the box with blue paper.

Watercolor time! Carter was overjoyed to see me bring out the paint and paintbrushes. He started painting and I helped along the way. We decided to paint the sun that was printed on the inside of the box. After painting, I brought out the stamp stickers. Carter put the stickers on, above the sun design.

Carter scooped in the sand and added an octopus foam sticker, toy lizards, a lobster, shells and a beaded necklace. Our treasure chest was complete and Carter was entertained long enough for me to finish part of my Christmas card list.

This is definetly an activity we can put away and use again in the future!

Craft #86-Day 93-Travel Tins

After a fun trip to the library/community center to reserve a room for Carter's birthday party this month...we were back home ready to start our next creative scrapbooking project.

We used an oyster tin to create our "scrapbox". Carter helped roll out the clay to be used on the edges of the tin. I placed the clay on the sharp edges of the tin, for safety and decoration.We found a pretty picture of a sandy beach and the ocean in a magazine that we could use for the back ground of our travel tin. I cut out the ocean picture and a piece of the cardboard box that the oysters were packaged in, that had a picture of waves,to fit into the tin. Then Carter helped glue the ocean picture onto the cardboard and then we glued it in the tin.

We added dolphin stickers to the background. Carter brushed glue onto the floor of the diorama and we sprinkled sand over it. Carter placed a shell and a toy whale inside the tin. I taped twine to the back and stuck it onto a starfish foam sticker and tack to hang up our little " scrapobox".

What a creative way to save memories of a vacation!

Craft #85-Day 92-Travel Keepsakes

Today was very rainy and very cold....a perfect day to craft!

I had the perfect cell phone cardboard box, just sitting in my recycling bin, waiting to be turned into something new! We decided to document our last adventure at the aquarium. I had kept the map of the aquarium to use for the bottom of our box. I am out of glue sticks, so we used paintbrushes and Elmer's glue instead. Not only is this a fun alternative, it also helps minimize messiness and pooling of the glue.

We covered the bottom and sides with dark blue construction paper and glued it in place. We covered the rest of the box using light blue paper and black tissue paper. On the top of the box, we glued on a pretty opalescent piece of paper. I cut out little blue fish and bubbles from felt and Carter helped to glue them on the pretty piece of paper.

The aquarium map had cute sea creature pictures. We cut those out and glued them on the inside of the box. We used a cute seahorse picture to glue on next to pur felt fishies. Carter helped place our items in the box....his ticket stub, toy shark, blue glass pebbles, a shell and a seal figurine. This is a fun way to capture those memories!

The second part of the project is to make a ring-bound book; a way to scrapbook on the go. Before we started the project we took a trip to the grocery store. We used this rainy day shopping adventure as our inspiration for our little scrapbook. We looked through magazines and cut out pictures of food, a car, a shopping cart and rain to represent what happened on our trip! We glued these pics out on to small squares of construction paper. I am not sure where my hole-punch has wandered off to, so I folded the top left corners of the papers and made a small slit. We thread a piece of twine through and tied a bow to hold all the pages together. Another creative way to scrapbook.

Craft #84-Day 91-Miniature Scrapbooks

It has been quite a busy holiday weekend! Carter and I are also making his birthday party invitations...so today was the first day this weekend that we had time for our next project.

I love the idea of mini scrapbooks to add to a larger scrapbook. It seems like a much more manageable way to keep up with all of the pictures. I had to print pictures for Carter's invitations, so I went ahead and printed out some pics from October as well.

We used lightweight cardboard for our pages and covered the front and back with construction paper. Carter decorated the paper with markers, a cute bat window cling decoration that we repurposed as scrapbook decor, and we added a couple of squares of paper with the title-"October 2014".

I cut around the pics we wanted to use and Carter helped with the tape. We placed Halloween window clings throughout the book. Carter also added glitter around the pics and around the title.

Now I need to keep doing this for every event!
